Early Life and Education
Pemmy Castelina Pamela Majodina was born on 24 December 1968 in Sterkspruit, Cape Province, South Africa. Her academic journey began at the National University of Lesotho, where she earned her Bachelor of Education degree in 1996. She furthered her studies and completed an Honours degree in Education in 1998. In recognition of her dedication to community development, Majodina received an Honorary Doctorate in Community Development from the Arlington University of Australia in 2010.
Political Career
Initial Involvement and Leadership Roles Majodina’s political career is deeply rooted in the anti-apartheid struggle and youth activism. She held key positions in the regional, provincial, and national executives of the South African Students’ Congress, the ANC Youth League, the ANC Women’s League, and the South African Communist Party. Her commitment extended to being an underground operative for uMkhonto we Sizwe, the military wing of the ANC.
National Council of Provinces (1999–2004) In 1999, Majodina began her national political journey as a delegate to the National Council of Provinces (NCOP), representing the Eastern Cape. During her tenure, she was an active member of the ANC’s caucus and contributed to various legislative committees.
Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature (2004–2019) In 2004, Majodina transitioned to the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature, where she served for 15 years. During this time, she held multiple MEC positions, showcasing her versatility and leadership:
