Scholarship Overview
Hyundai Motor Group is funding seven scholarships at SOAS University of London for the 2026/27 academic year.
These awards aim to:

Scholars will also be invited to networking events, seminars, and alumni activities hosted by the donor during and after their studies.
Number of Scholarships Available
For 2026/27:
- 6 Master’s scholarships (taught programmes)
- 1 PhD scholarship (research degree)
Scholarship Value and Funding Details
Master’s Award
- Total value: £27,730
- Full tuition fees covered
- If tuition is lower than the award amount, the balance is paid as a stipend
PhD Award
- Full tuition fees for 3 years of study
- Tuition fee for writing-up year (4th year) covered
- Annual stipend of £22,780 (paid in instalments each term)
Eligible Programmes
The scholarship is open to:
- Any full-time (1 year) Master’s degree programme starting in 2026/27
- Any full-time research degree (MPhil/PhD) starting in 2026/27
Part-time courses and 2-year Master’s programmes are not eligible.
Students applying within the following areas are particularly encouraged:
- College of Development Studies
- Economics and Finance
- College of Law
- Anthropology
- Politics
Eligibility Requirements
To qualify, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Must be an African national ordinarily resident in Africa
- Must be classified as an International fee-paying student
- Must be applying for a new programme starting in 2026/27
- Must apply to SOAS before applying for the scholarship
Academic Requirements
For Master’s applicants:
- Must hold (or expect to obtain) the equivalent of a UK First-Class Honours degree
- Applicants with a 2:1 may apply but are not given preference
For PhD applicants:
- Must hold (or expect to obtain) the equivalent of a UK Master’s degree with distinction
- Applicants with a merit may apply but are not given preference
Applicants must also meet the English language requirements of their offer.
Important: This scholarship does not fund pre-sessional courses.

Applicants must have an unconditional offer by the time the Scholarship Panel meets.

How to Apply for the Hyundai Motor Group Scholarship 2026/27
The application process has two steps.
Step 1: Apply for Admission at SOAS
You must first apply for your chosen programme at SOAS University of London.
- Apply for a Master’s via the Taught Master’s admissions process
- Apply for an MPhil/PhD via the Doctoral School
Complete applications can take up to 4–6 weeks to be processed, especially during busy periods.
You will receive login credentials for the admissions portal after applying.
Step 2: Apply for the Scholarship
Once you have applied for your programme:
- Log into the SOAS admissions portal
- Locate the Hyundai Motor Group Scholarship application
- Submit your scholarship application before 12 noon (UK time) on 25 April 2026
If the scholarship does not appear in your portal, ensure you meet all eligibility criteria.
When Will Results Be Announced?
- Shortlisting and awarding are expected to be completed in June 2026 (at the earliest)
- Successful candidates will be contacted first
- Unsuccessful candidates will be notified once all awards are allocated
